Train G3966 departed from Xi’an East Station in Shaanxi at 9:16 a.m. on June 30, 2026. At that verymoment, train G3969 set off from Shiyan East Station in Hubei. Two Fuxing intelligent electric multiple units (EMUs) ran in opposite directions simultaneously, marking the official opening of the Xi’an-Shiyan High-Speed Railway (Xi-Shi HSR). This is the first high-speed railway line to be opened in the inaugural year of China’s “15th Five-Year Plan”period. Traversing the Qinling Mountains, it connects the Guanzhong Plain with the Qinba mountainous region.

极目新闻两路记者分赴西安和十堰直击开通盛况。上午8时30分许，西安东站候车厅内热闹非凡，一场文艺盛会在开通仪式现场精彩启幕，陕鄂沿线多地文艺院团齐聚一堂，以戏曲、乐舞、非遗说唱等多元艺术形式，串联起三秦古韵与荆楚风华，共贺西十高铁圆梦通车。十堰东站同样热闹非凡，站前广场上，当地群众载歌载舞迎接高铁时代的到来，当地还组织劳模等先进人物登上首发列车体验。

Reporters from Jimu News were dispatched to Xi’an and Shiyan to cover the grand opening. Around 8:30 a.m., the waiting hall of Xi’an East Station was bustling with excitement as a cultural gala kicked off the launch ceremony. Artistic troupes from along the Shaanxi-Hubei route gathered to showcase diverse art forms, including traditional opera, music and dance, and intangible cultural heritage storytelling and folk ballad performances, weaving together the ancient charm of the “Three Qins”(Shaanxi) and the splendor of “Jingchu”(Hubei) to celebrate the long-awaited opening of the railway. Shiyan East Railway Station was equally vibrant. On the plaza outside the station, local residents danced and sang to welcome the new high-speed rail age. Model workers and advanced workers were also organized to board the inaugural train for an on-site experience.

Both inaugural trains received elaborate themed decorahead of departure. One slogan reads: “The ancient Qin-Chu route draws near today, with mountains, rivers and all hopes on the way.”The train departing Shiyan East Railway Station is decorated with square palace lanterns and postcards highlighting local delicacies and scenic spots along the route, while its counterpart leaving Xi’an East Railway Station features exquisite paper-cut works showcasing traditional cultural elements including Qinqiang Opera.

十堰市组织140名全国省市劳模、先进工作者，乘坐首趟来往西安的高铁，体验西十高铁。全国劳模刘亮国告诉极目新闻记者：“特别期待这趟首发列车，以前去西安，坐普速列车要五六个小时，现在最快1个小时就到了。”

Shiyan City organized 140 national, provincial and municipal model workers and advanced workers to take the first high-speed train to Xi’an, to experience the newly opened Xi-Shi HSR. Liu Liangguo, a national model worker, told Jimu News: “I have long been looking forward to this inaugural trip. In the past, it took five to six hours to reach Xi’an by regular-speed train, but now the fastest journey only takes one hour.”

西十高铁衔接“八纵八横”高铁网主要干线通道，衔接多条高铁干线。通车后，西安至十堰仅需1小时左右，武汉、郑州、西安三大都市圈形成2小时高铁“闭环”。更重要的是，武汉至西安不再绕行郑州，里程缩短340公里。

The Xi-Shi HSR connects with major trunk corridors of China’s Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal High-Speed Rail Network and links up with several other high-speed rail lines. Following its opening, travel between Xi’an and Shiyan now takes only about one hour, creating a two-hour high-speed rail loop among the three metropolitan areas of Wuhan, Zhengzhou and Xi’an. More importantly, trains between Wuhan and Xi’an no longer need to detour via Zhengzhou, cutting the travel distance by 340 kilometers.

西十高铁全线42座隧道总长约200公里，桥隧比超过90%，是全国第一条以350公里时速穿行秦岭的钢铁动脉。西安东站至十堰东站最快1小时左右可达，较此前经西康、襄渝线最短旅行时间压缩5小时19分钟。蓝田、山阳、郧西等县从此迈入高铁时代。

The entire Xi-Shi HSR features 42 tunnels totaling approximately 200 kilometers, with a bridge and tunnel proportion exceeding 90%. It is China’s first high-speed railway to traverse the Qinling Mountains at a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour. The fastest journey from Xi’an East Railway Station to Shiyan East Railway Station takes about one hour, reducing the shortest previous travel time via the Xi’an-Ankang and Xiangyang-Chongqing railways by five hours and 19 minutes. Counties such as Lantian, Shanyang and Yunxi have now entered the high-speed rail era.

From the echoing hoofbeats once heard along the ancient Shangyu Passage to the roaring passage of Fuxing bullet trains, the Qinling Mountains can now be crossed in just one hour. This steel artery through the mountains, running at 350 kmph, is turning the long-cherished dream of transforming natural chasms into accessible thoroughfares into reality.
